The Rare Earth Series is Billy Mays' account of his incredible Central and Eastern European adventures from 1983–2003 and the realities of living in Soviet-bloc Eastern Europe. Follow his account as it really happened and learn how spies, black marketeers, and a surprising cast of famous elites and world leaders all play a part in Mays' journey during the closing days of the great East-West struggle.

THE CERIUM TALES

Overwhelmed by the lack of employment opportunities following his graduation from the University of Washington with a degree in Economics, Billy Mays looks for career alternatives and, against the advice of most, sets out for Soviet-Bloc Eastern Europe. Arriving at a time when martial law Poland was just ending and the Cold War still raging between the U.S. and the Soviet Union, the author builds a personal network of contacts in Central and Eastern Europe that leads toward a direct involvement with U.S. intelligence operations and dealing in the black market. An amazing career, both legitimate and undercover, unfolds in this story that spans two decades and sees the Berlin Wall come down with enormous economic and political consequences for the region. An unexpected cast of characters in this collection of stories including President George H.W. Bush, the Kennedy Family, and President Lech Walesa, gives new meaning to what the West's battle strategy was during the Cold War and paints an alternative picture about how the East was really won.
Billy Mays lives in Washington DC and continues his other work as an advocate for environmentally sound solutions for real estate and communities. He is working on the other three volumes in The Rare Earth Series and has several fiction books in the pipeline that take from the experiences of his twenty years in Central and Eastern Europe.

This is Volume I of an autobiographical tale about Billy Mays' journey from middle class America to an unusually eventful career in Central and Eastern Europe during the Cold War. Sometimes irreverent and shocking, this book sheds light into the dark and dangerous world that was the former Soviet Bloc before and after the fall of the Berlin Wall.
In this tell-all tale Billy Mays depicts an anarchic Soviet-Bloc era black market economy both before and after the fall of the Berlin Wall. Two secret expeditions deep into Russian Siberia to recover strategic materials for the U.S. Government highlight this tale of international intrigue.

One Polish Town's Unusual Secret to Success, the first of the Cerium Tales, is timed for release before the end of the year. This story takes place in a small village in southeast Poland and details how the town's citizens, in a bizarre set of circumstances, secretly bettered their lives materially in the midst of communist control for nearly two generations.
